Faith Family Hospitality

Across the faith communities, there has been difficulty finding enough volunteers to fill the roles, even though there are fewer roles to fill.  We need volunteer help to support meal preparation, evening and overnight hosting shifts, and laundry support.

Please click on this sign-up to see shifts available and/or to sign up for volunteer help anytime you can.
First Presbyterian Church works with Mission Partner Faith Family Hospitality to host families who are experiencing homelessness. Note: Currently,  families will stay at Foothills Unitarian Church and the volunteers from our church will travel there. Many protocols are in place to assure proper cleaning, disinfecting, and social distancing.
Many of our regular volunteers are in the "at-risk" group, so this would be a great time for those who are not at-risk to volunteer. The volunteer roles fare changed and the number of volunteers has been reduced to reduce exposure. Following are the basics of the volunteer roles:

  • Dinner Preparers:  Drop off your meal at Foothills between 5:30 and 6:00 PM.  The Evening Hosts will serve the meal.  If you would like to serve the meal, also sign up for Evening Host.  There should only be one or two people serving the meal.
  • Evening Hosts:  Arrive at 5:00 PM and stay until the Overnight Host arrives at 8:00 PM.  Keep food at the proper temperature, serve the guests, put away food, and wash any serving utensils.  There should not be more than 2 evening hosts.
  • Overnight Hosts:  Arrive at the church by 8:00 PM and lock the outside doors. Guests will be in their rooms. It is ok to knock and introduce yourself, but it is not required. In the morning, open the doors at 7:00 AM and stay until the Program Manager arrives at 8:00 AM. The host rooms are on the upper level and the families’ rooms are on the lower level to minimize contact.
  • Laundry Volunteers:  Pick up laundry on Sunday at Foothills.  Return it to Foothills at any time during the week.

Updated FFH Training is Available

If you are looking for a way to get back into the routine of volunteering with FFH or encouraging your fellow parishioners or friends, FFH training is available. Training covers procedures used by FHN and FFH under ’normal’ circumstances as well as under the current arrangement at Foothills.  It will give you an opportunity to ask the trainers questions and express your concerns.

These training sessions are done with a virtual meeting, twice a month. Trainings this month will be held September 20 from 1-2:30 p.m. and September 21 from 7-8:30 p.m.  The login is below.
